Description Kirikaze Chiyuki 2022-12-24 12:28:13 UTC
SUMMARY
I wish the search for emojis was available in English, just like searching for programs in KRunner.
The current process of searching for emoji on the CJK system is to first enter a letter to call out the search box, then delete the letter, activate the IM, and enter the name of the emoji. Another method is clicking the search button, then activate the IM, and search for emojis. Both methods are cumbersome. If I'm able to search in English, I don't need to activate the input method anymore and can just input directly on the emoji selector homepage.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.1.0
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0
Qt Version: 5.15.7

In the app called "Emoji Selector" there in fact is a search that accepts English words. But think you're not actually using that app, and are instead talking about the IBus or FCITX popup, which is something different. Can you confirm?

Can confirm. Can't use English keywords to search emojis when the locale is not English.

Sorry for my poor expression, I can illustrate this bug with screenshots:
English locale en_US.UTF-8: https://imgsrc.baidu.com/super/pic/item/d53f8794a4c27d1e786aed015ed5ad6edcc438a3.jpg
Chinese locale zh_CN.UTF-8: https://imgsrc.baidu.com/super/pic/item/c8ea15ce36d3d5398472d9067f87e950342ab0ac.jpg

Can also confirm this bug here! Meaning: the application only searches in the local language, not in English. I find that I keep guessing multiple times what keywords in the local language might be associated with a particular emoji that I have in mind. It rarely works, and instead I have to click through the sheets of emojis to find it.

Please always support English out of the box! Or provide a configuration option to select one or more languages. I guess it might be hackable as is by setting an environment variable in the desktop file, but personally I have not tried.
