Image on timeline as seen in the project monitor

SUMMARY
The installed version (22.12 via Pop!_OS App Stoire using flatpack; also observed in the installed Windows version) puts an image (PNG, 367x549) onto the project monitor (project is 1920x1080) at the top left hand corner at its original size; the appimage version (22.12) puts the image at the center and scaled to fill the height.
A transform effect in the installed version moves the image around but it is clipped at its original borders (see attached screenshots), a change in size is applied correctly but the image stays in the upper left hand corner.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start kdenlive installed from flatpack
2. Add an image of smaller size than project settings to the timeline
3. Add a transform effect to the image

OBSERVED RESULT
Image scales correctly but stays in the upper left hand corner; changing X and/or Y coordinates moves the image but it is clipped at its original dimensions

EXPECTED RESULT
Image is scaled to meet the project settings and centered
