Did you use ffmpeg 5 API. If yes, only next digiKam 8.0.0 will be compatible with ffmpeg 5. digiKam 7.9.0 only support ffmpeg < 5.

I installed replaced the development package for FFmpeg5 with ffmpeg4 per your comment, and it now compiles and runs! Thanks! Bug can be closed.
