ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 veggero 2022-11-27 15:05:54 UTC
What task switcher are you using, the default one?
Comment 2 Cezary Statkiewicz 2022-11-27 19:17:42 UTC
I've tried all that are built-in, also tried "Preview Stack" (https://store.kde.org/p/1163050), which claims in it's description, that it's clickable, but none of them works as expected.
Comment 3 Cezary Statkiewicz 2022-11-28 14:02:46 UTC
It seems this bug is present only when using Wayland. With X11 task switching and clicking on previews works as expected.

This is working for me on Wayland. Can you re-test with Plasma 5.27?

Testing with:

Operating System: Gentoo Linux 2.13
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.106.0
Qt Version: 5.15.9
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Well, if I select an effect from switcher select in system settings and click preview icon, then clicking on a specific window will have an effect (clicked window will be in pressed down). However, when the task switcher is actually used, then there is no effect when clicking on any window. What's more, when I click on the widget, I can move it around, like a normal window.

Oh, I see now.

The preview isn't expected to be interactive; it's simply a preview.

I've uploaded small screen demonstration of the problem: https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=159526

I think that falls under the category of "well then don't do that." :) Meta+dragging is a power user feature; it's up to you to use it responsibly.

Also this is a new thing from what was originally reported; since the originally reported issue is no longer reproducible, let's close it.

Well, dragging the task bar is a side effect I don't mind. I just wanted to show my observations regarding behavior of the widget.

My original and only concern here is that clicking on tasks on task switcher doesn't work. That still stands and it's not resolved so far.
Comment 13 Nate Graham 2023-06-09 17:41:04 UTC
The video indicates that you're clicking on icons in the *preview* of the active Task Switcher, not the real thing. The *preview* isn't expected to function the way the real thing does. It's a preview, nothing more.

Is that the issue you're reporting? Or are you reporting that the *real* Task Switcher that opens when you hit the Alt+Tab shortcut doesn't switch windows when you click on its items?

i *think* i can shed some light on this: i use meta+tab/cmd+tab for task switcher, and i can only drag the task switcher, not click on any of the thumbnails. i'm using thumbnail grid, but this is the case for every visualisation (including cover switch, which is jarring)

this did not cause issues in x11, so i would count this as a regression (meta didn't drag the task switcher, and clicking worked as expected)

i presume the original reporter used alt for window dragging, and so was experiencing the same thing

it works fine if i change the drag modifier key in Window Management -> Window Behaviour -> Window Actions to alt, but that causes other problems

(forgive me, i don't know what the correct thing to do is - comment on a closed issue, or clone it and make a new one that is likely the same. i didn't want to summarily mark it as reopened for this reason)
Comment 17 Nate Graham 2024-02-26 19:39:05 UTC
In that specific case, it's already fixed in Plasma 6.0.
