When I open KolourPaint It works properly but instead of tools buttons I have text that uses a lot of space
Version of KolourPaint = 20.12.0
Linux (i686) release  5.10.0-19-686
Linux Mint Debian Edition 5
With Cinnamon and Mate Desktops
  The problem is in Mate Desktop.

Does it change when you right-click on this toolbox and select "Text Position -> Icons only" ?
