Description GaryB 2022-11-18 14:51:50 UTC
I’m using Kdenlive to compile a slide show of old and new pictures, so it’s just a collection of stills with fades between them. I have found that on some (not all) of the fades, the picture jumps sideways slightly at the beginning and end of the fade, probably by only one or two pixels. You can see it in this YouTube video where the picture jumps slightly to the right at around 12 secs, and slightly to the left at around 18 secs. I have tried all versions up to the latest 22.12 Beta, and it's the same in all of them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQL3lc_0MEQ

You’ll see on this that the picture jumps slightly to the right at around 12 secs, and slightly to the left at around 18 secs. There are other "Then and Now" videos on my YouTube channel where it is visible.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add still images to timeline
2. Add standard fade/transition between them.
3. The slight shift will be visible on some, but not all transitions on the rendered video.

OBSERVED RESULT
Horizontal shift on some transitions.

EXPECTED RESULT
No shift.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Tested in Windows 10 - 21H2

I see the side move on the YouTube video.

Do you have added these pictures direct to the timeline and you have not used the function “Add Image Sequence”. Correct?

If you delete all clips except the first 4 ones -> does this shift still happens? If yes, can you upload the first 4 pictures so we can test.

Watching the video again and it seems all pictures have this issue. After the transition the picture get slightly shifted to one side and before the next transition the picture gets slightly shifted to the other side. Can you upload a screenshot of you timeline and show me which transition settings do you use?

All pictures are added to Project Bin and then dragged to timeline. Basically:
1. Add pictures to timeline.
2. Overlap "old" and "New" versions of the same picture by 3 seconds and different pictures by 2 seconds.
3. Add standard "Wipe" effect by dragging purple dot.

I have tried the Luma transition with same result. There are other "Then and Now" videos on my YouTube channel which show the shift.

I haven't got the original timeline for this video, but I have recreated it with the first 4 pictures as you requested and the shift shows. The 4 files are attached (hopefully). I have attached a screen shot of the new test timeline.

This is probably an issue in MLT's transition. I will try to investigate

Timeline_Same-Track-transition

Thank you for the pictures. Even with same-track-transition the slightly left/right shift is visible (even on the project monitor while playback).

I see this same issue on every transition on a Slackware64-15.0 Linux system using Kdenlive 21.12.1.
