Created attachment 153373 [details] A timer plasmoid on the desktop SUMMARY The new version of the timer plasmoid features a clock icon, which shrinks the timer text. The plasmoid on the desktop, where it had enough space to show a nice large timer, now has tiny text and a large clock icon next to it. It would be good to have an option to disable the icon, so the text has more space
Created attachment 153374 [details] The old timer plasmoid The old timer plasmoid used the space much better. The padding in the screenshot is wrong, what was a known bug before the rewrite of the timer UI. It was not possible to shrink it vertically without decreasing the font-size, so imagine the bottom padding would not be there for the ideal timer layout.
Created attachment 153375 [details] The plasmoid on a panel In a vertical panel, the plasmoid uses a lot of space for the icon and has a hard to read font-size for the timer. It would better allow for a font-size similar to the digital clock widget and hide the icon.
Yeah when you're using it purely for display, the button kinda does gets in the way. Maybe we could make it so that clicking the plasmoid anywhere will open the popup that the button currently opens?
I think this could become a nice UI: Show a large timer and add a mouseover-effect that shows a button outline. Maybe with something like 100-200 ms delay for not triggering it when the cursor moves over the widget but only when the user wants to interact with it, but I would need to test it before I can say if this is necessary or not. Currently I use the timer on a edge of the screen where it is easily visible and want to easily see the remaining time. I don't think I would trigger the effect very often when not using the widget, but I am not sure which use-cases other people have. And such an effect in a panel would probably be strange. On the other hand it could have a brightness change like launcher icons there.
Try to resize the timer applet and you will get the old look
