SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** digikam isn't finding new items after being interrupted. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add new collection 2. Close digikam whilst automatic scanning of files is in progress 3. start digikam again OBSERVED RESULT The program restarts scanning for new items, but stops before completing the process. Running 'Maintenance Scan for New Items' does not complete the scan of all folders. I have folders for each year from 1999 to 2022, each contains folders for the months in that year. When I stopped digikam it was processing 2014. When restarted it processed more of 2014, but nothing after June 2014. The last time I ran it, it finished in a few minutes and does not appeared to have found more items. EXPECTED RESULT All relevant files in the Collection would be added to the collection and be visible in albums. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: 10 macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: 5.96.0 Qt Version: 5.15.5 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The scanner for new elements works very reliably, if new ones are available they would be added. Check whether the rights of the folders and files are readable for digiKam. Otherwise we need a DebugView log. Maik
I tried several times. In the end I removed the album from the collection and restarted digikam and added the folder again. That prompted a complete rescan, which is now running. I will do as you suggested, if it happens again. Created attachment 153232 [details] attachment-7318-0.html I did this on an old i7 Desktop, which only has 8gb RAM. digikam doesn't appear to run out of memory, so I don't know why it failed. The second run died at about 57%, so I changed the environment variable to activate debug; started dbugview; then restarted digikam. Of course this time it ran perfectly and finished importing new items. It's an annoying fault, which also occurs on my even older Lubuntu desktop. I will henceforth always run dbugview, with digikam, even though it slows everything down. At least if it happens again I can give you a debug log. @Steve, digiKam 8.0.0 is out. This entry still valid with this release ? Best regards Gilles Caulier
@Steve, This problem still reproducible with the new digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release Windows installer available at usual place: https://files.kde.org/digikam/ This new bundle is based on last Qt framework 5.15.11 and KDE framework 5.110. Thanks in advance Gilles Caulier
Steve, I recommend to use the new digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release Windows installer build with VCPLG+MSVC+Qt6. It's a native Windows version compared to previous ones cross compiled under Linux. File is here : https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Thanks in advance Gilles Caulier
Hi, The 8.7.0 pre-release Windows installer from today have been rebuilt from scratch with Qt 6.8.3, KDE 6.12, OpenCV 4.11 + CUDA support, Exiv2 0.28.5, ExifTool 13.27, ffmpeg 7, all image codecs updated to last version (jxl, avif, heif, aom, etc.). Please try with this version to see if your problem still reproducible... https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Thanks in advance Best regards Gilles Caulier
