Description Kirikaze Chiyuki 2022-10-24 12:32:58 UTC
SUMMARY
During normal use of KDE Plasma, newly-appearing windows (menus, notifications, etc.) turn completely black, and after two seconds Plasma freezes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
This bug appears occasionally and randomly, so there may be no stable way to reproduce it.

OBSERVED RESULT
![A black notification](https://imgsrc.baidu.com/super/pic/item/060828381f30e924369fe1f009086e061d95f73c.jpg)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Platform: X11
Arch Linux 6.0.3-2-cachyos-bore
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
After Plasma freezes, I can switch tty and use other ttys normally without any core dump in the journal. The only error is kcm keyboard or mouse.
Killing kwin_x11 (and sometimes plasmashell) when the window starts to go black solves the problem, but after it freezes, the only way to solve is to reboot.

I've been getting this behavior too about once per day since I upgraded Frameworks to 5.99 last week. It occurs when I open up the Alt-Tab switcher or KRunner. Every time this happens, I couldn't find any mention of KWin in the journal logs and Plasmashell remains responsive. I was able to kill and restart KWin on Yakuake after turning off compositing with a keyboard shortcut.

This bug is not a duplicate of bug 459778, because I'm on X11 not Wayland.
Comment 5 Kirikaze Chiyuki 2022-10-25 00:19:27 UTC
btw, I'm with SierraBreezeEnhanced decoration not Klassy.

EDIT: This bug can be reproduced by using notify-send to send a large number of notifications in a short period of time. After the bug occurs, restarting sddm also works.
