In tablet mode (touchscreen device without keyboard) it would be good to have switch between automatic/manual showing of keyboard. Swipe gesture could work well for showing in manual mode.

Use case - tablet with touchscreen only
 - while browsing i might accidentally press input field - this means virtual keyboard is being shown and this behavior can be annoying

Automatic display of the virtual keyboard can be disabled in the Input Method widget that lives in the System Tray.
