Description gudvinr+kde 2022-10-13 22:43:11 UTC
SUMMARY

In system settings > input devices there are 2 entries for setting up tablets:
* Drawing Tablet
* Graphic tablet

Both refer to same thing essentially and what makes it even more ridiculous is that on Wayland, second one doesn't work and just show message about its unavailability.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  Open Input Devices

OBSERVED RESULT
There are multiple settings menus for tablets.

EXPECTED RESULT
Only one settings entry for tablets.

Drawing Tablet is the wayland version of the Graphics Tablet KCM, which does not work on Wayland. I guess the bug here is that Drawing Tablet is inappropriately shown on X11.

However this would be tricky if we just hide it, since then on X11 you would see nothing unless you have the wacomtablet repo installed, which provides the Graphics Tablet KCM.

What do you think, Aleix?

Alternatively, you can fix this for yourself by uninstalling the wacomtablet package.

For me that's other way around. I have Graphics Tablet shown on Wayland.

Just to be clear:

> Drawing Tablet is the wayland version of the Graphics Tablet KCM, which does not work on Wayland. I guess the bug here is that Drawing Tablet is inappropriately shown on X11.

"which does not work on X11". Yes, the "Drawing Tablet" KCM should only be shown in Wayland, and that should already be the case.

The "Graphic tablet" should stay there on X11.

"Graphic tablet" should not be seen on Wayland. This needs fixing in here: https://invent.kde.org/system/wacomtablet
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2022-10-25 16:09:09 UTC
Yeah, we should make the old Wacom tablet KCM not appear on Wayland, now that there is a Wayland-compatible thing.
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2022-10-25 19:56:19 UTC
Oh, I made that change 9 months ago in https://invent.kde.org/system/wacomtablet/-/commit/dd28b27069c45d618cee952a7b3bc284a42cc7d0.

The problem appears to be that it hasn't gotten a release since then. I'll see what I can do.
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2022-10-25 19:57:19 UTC
In the meantime, distros can patch their packages with that commit if they want.
