It would be nice to be able to run an arbitrary command before backing up (and possibly afterwards as well).
I want to ensure I have my cloud storage mounted as a network disk before backing up.
Kate is probably a good reference, it has a really nice external tools interface and gui.

Thanks for reporting your idea and motivation!
This is an idea that could be accepted, if somebody wants to work on it. Mostly about getting a nice configuration UI.
