STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect an external screen, mouse and keyboard to your laptop running a password-protected Kubuntu
2. Lock the screen
3. go get a coffee or tea
4. come back to the screen and try to login

OBSERVED RESULT
Typing on the keyboard does nothing, you have to first click the mouse, before you can enter they keyword to enter into Kubuntu

EXPECTED RESULT
Starting to type automatically sets the cursor in the password field, so you can just start typing your password without firsts having to click the mouse to put the cursor in the password field

Comment 1 galder 2022-10-10 11:14:00 UTC
Hello,
I'm using latest branch 5.26 in Kubuntu 22.04 but I cant reproduce the issue.
I have an external monitor.

I understand your system is in 5.24 but you compiled 5.26 right?

Regards

Hi,
no i was just using 5.24.6 before, default in Kubuntu LTS 22.04. I just upgraded via Kubuntu's extra-backport ppa to Plasma 5.25.5. Same issue persists.
I'd be happy to update to 5.25.6, but i'm not actually sure how to do that.
Happy to make a vid on my phone to show you the described bug if that's helpful.
Comment 3 galder 2022-10-13 13:39:42 UTC
Hello,
thanks for your reply. I was referring to 5.26.0.
that's not available yet for Kubuntu.

I'm going to change the ticket to 5.25.5.

if you could load a video would be helpful.

This is a known issue but I believe is was fixed.

Did you update all the packages from https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports-extra
that repo is at 5.25.5 at moment.

I was working for me.

Regards
Galder

thanks for all the help @galder
Comment 12 galder 2022-10-14 12:21:40 UTC
in theory was fixed for 5.25 and 5.24.
I believe the problem is your setup.

This morning I installed in testing laptop Kubuntu 22.04 and upgraded to 5.25.5. I could not reproduce this issue either.

About 5.26.0, you need to wait until Ubuntu makes available for jammy. Don't try update from kinetic as I will break your desktop setup.
It happened to me yesterday :)

ah OK, but you said the bug had been resolved right in the other bug report? Does that not mean the bug will be resolved for me too when I update?

I understand that you should have the fix in 5.25.x. I don't really know
why is not working for you.

Maybe you can reply in that ticket.

Galder
