Works for me on Wayland with the current git master version of KWin.

I think the issue you might be facing here is Yakuake's handling of losing focus. In Yakuake's settings there is an option to "keep window open open it loses focus" and with this unchecked it seems a bit overzealous in when it chooses to close. For example, just hitting alt+F3 closes yakuake while in the window because of the new context menu opened. This possibly causes Yakuake to disappear with the desktop grid open, as Yakuake doesn't disappear with the checkbox checked. Someone might have to move this bug to yakuake or maybe kwin.

I have that option checked and is still disappears in the desktop grid (also when unchecked, BTW). So I don''t think that is my issue.

This should be fixed in Plasma 6 now.
