Description h.k.ghost 2022-09-27 09:15:53 UTC
SUMMARY

When transferring a video file (~3.8GBs) from the phone to the desktop, the transfer will start and continue for several minutes (~10-12 mins) and then fail with an error. This is always the case. I've transferred smaller files (e.g. pictures) without issues, but the video file is always a problem. Perhaps the problem shows up after a certain file size.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Record an HD video file ~3.8GBs in size
2. Try to transfer the file over to your desktop over KDE Connect
3. Let it go for several minutes (~12mins)

OBSERVED RESULT

The video file transfer always ends in a failure with an error message saying that the transfer failed.

EXPECTED RESULT

The transfer would be successful.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: Kubuntu 22.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.15.0-48-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The KDE Connect version number reported by the phone app is 1.19.1, but this version number is not available in the dropdown list as an option. I've marked it as a major severity bug because this is part of the basic functionality of the app and I'm not aware of any workarounds.

Thank you for the bug report. Unfortunately we were not able to get to it yet. Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with either Plasma 5.27 (the current LTS version) or Plasma 6.0.4 (the latest released version), and the latest version of KDE Connect available for your phone?

I just tested this by sending a video from my phone to my Plasma 6 desktop and the file finished copying.

Operating System: Solus 4.5
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.6.3

Sony Xperia with Android 12.
kdeconnect - 1.30.1

I'm not able to do this. I've long since worked around the issue...

Did you copy a ~4GB file? If not, then you did not test this properly.

The file used in testing was 4.12GB.
Closing the issue as I'm not able to reproduce.
