Description Mitja 2022-09-16 22:41:05 UTC
Application: plasmashell (5.25.5)

Qt Version: 5.15.6
Frameworks Version: 5.98.0
Operating System: Linux 5.15.0-46-generic x86_64
Windowing System: Wayland
Distribution: KDE neon User - 5.25
DrKonqi: 5.25.5 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
I have successfully updated KDE Plasma but now Kickoff menu opens in the lower middle of the screen instead in the lower left side of the screen. Also KRunner opens in the middle of the screen instead in the top side of the screen. After attempting to fix the issue, Plasma crashes. This issue happens only on Wayland,X servers works fine. Steps to repro: 1. Update KDE via Discover 2. Kickoff and KRunner open in the middle of the screen 3. Attempting to fix the issue causes Plasma to crash.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

-- Backtrace:
Application: Plasma (plasmashell), signal: Segmentation fault

What do you mean, "After attempting to fix the issue"? What did you do to attempt to fix the issue?

I ask because the backtrace suggests an installation error.

KRunner.png

Good evening Nate,

after some KDE Plasma upgrades Kickoff and Krunner don't open in their
usual screen location. Kickoff opens in the middle of the Taskbar instead
of lower left corner and Krunner opens in the center of the Desktop instead
of upper center of the Desktop. When I attempted to fix the issue by
dragging Kickoff to the left I got Plasma crash.

I have attached screenshots to this email to explain my problem better
because English is not my primary language. I hope that's OK for you.

Finally I would remind that this issue happens only in Wayland session, X
works fine.

Best regards,

Mitja

How did you drag Kickoff to the left? That's not supposed to be possible.

To drag Kickoff menu you have to:
1. Open Kickoff
2. Press meta key and right mouse button at the same time and drag it.

Comment 6 Nate Graham 2022-09-26 16:10:20 UTC
Thanks.

I can't reproduce the bug when I do that. From perusing the backtrace, it looks like it's crashing in your graphics drivers:

#5 0x00007f77e54e9457 in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libEGL_mesa.so.0
#6 0x00007f77e54de432 in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libEGL_mesa.so.0
#7 0x00007f77e54d5f41 in ?? () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libEGL_mesa.so.0
#8 0x00007f77ec08dd59 in ?? () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/wayland-graphics-integration-client/libqt-plugin-wayland-egl.so
#9  0x00007f77f211fff1 in QOpenGLContext::swapBuffers(QSurface*) () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Gui.so.5

Unfortunately we're missing debug symbols so there's not a lot more that we can know.

I would recommend:
1. getting a new backtrace with debug symbols for the mesa package; see https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
2. Report this crash to Mesa; see https://docs.mesa3d.org/bugs.html

Thanks!

The crash happened only once after some updates installation at reboot and
cannot be reproduced anymore because now things works as expected, except
for the fact that Kickoff and Krunner opens in an unusual position on the
screen as you can see from the screen shots I sent you.

I suggest we close this report. Do you think I should fill a separate bug
report about Kickoff and Krunner opening in the center of the screen on
Wayland?

Comment 8 Nate Graham 2022-09-27 16:47:39 UTC
No need, there was already a bug report on it and it's fixed now (for Frameworks 5.99, and distros are backporting the fix).

Thanks. We can close this bug report because as I said it happened only
once and cannot be reproduced anymore. I hope the fix for Kickoff and
Krunner will be implemented soon in KDE Neon distro.
