SUMMARY

When changing between "Apply scaling themselves" and "Scaled by the system" it says, "Changes will come into effect after the system is restarted". However, there already some changes to discover:

(a) "Apply scaling themselves" --> "Scaled by the system": Dragging the VLC window shows a tail.

(b) "Scaled by the system" --> "Apply scaling themselves": XWayland windows scale down to the upper left quadrant and the rest of the window becomes transparent.

Comment 3 David Edmundson 2022-09-16 15:57:24 UTC
does it also go away if you resize the window
Comment 4 postix 2022-09-16 16:05:40 UTC
 (a) also applies to other XWayland applications, not just to the VLC.

Yes, for both (a) and (b).
