SUMMARY I remember reading quite a while ago that Kate got a user interface overhaul, particularly changing how tabs are displayed. I was waiting patiently as I thought this might just be coming in a future update, but I noticed today that my laptop which hadn't been updated in about a month actually has the newer UI while my PC running the 5.26 Beta was still using the "old" UI. Here is how Kate looks on my PC with Kate 22.08.1: https://i.imgur.com/E9qdzbi.png Interestingly, my laptop is still running Kate 22.08, and it has the UI refresh. My PC does not. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Kate? Sorry, I'm not sure what the steps to "reproduce" this would be. OBSERVED RESULT Kate has the "old" UI layout. EXPECTED RESULT Kate should have the "new" UI layout, as other devices I use with Plasma do. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.19.8-zen1-1-zen (64bit) KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.90 (though is present on stable 5.25 releases too, I just happen to be using the Beta right now) KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Only tested under Wayland for both my PC and my laptop.
Here is how Kate looks on my PC with Kate 22.08.1: https://i.imgur.com/E9qdzbi.png => for me this looks exactly like 22.08 should look like. Per default pure icons on the left and some combined bar on the bottom. Just like https://kate-editor.org/post/2022/2022-07-24-kate-22.08/
On the right of the kate editor post linked, the tabs look different on my machine. It is a long tab bar along the top instead of a smaller tab like in the image you have shown. Is there anything further I can provide to better illustrate the bug and potentially fix this on my machine?
You can configure if the tabs shall span the full size on not in the configure dialog, Behavior page.
