I notice most often this happens when i have a plasma widget either under (so it must be nudged when latte launches) or there is something under the top bar (default Garuda Dr460nized config).  Other garuda users aren't experiencing this, so it must me something happening on my machine. The title of the post is infrequent crashes, but it happens almost at every launch.  the pattern described is anecdotal though, and may be just my own superstition.
