It has taken me some time to work through several issues, but I think the 3.6.0 is now a pretty good one. Please check to see if it is improved. Based on what you said here, I suspect you had the issue that was caused by the loading code for the asteroids.dat file. That issue was fixed yesterday and is now in both the current DMG on the Kstars kde website and the nightly releases. So please check and I hope it is all better now.
