Description foto19@ernst-buerjes.de 2022-08-18 10:38:00 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. I select Tools > PrintCreator
2. In the welcome window I have the opportunity to include gimp binaries.
3. Because I had installed gimp before I click "find".
4. A new window opens "Navigate to gimp - digiKam".
5. I try to enter a filename - but never the button "open" will become active. Perhaps because the inputfield "filetype" is containing the letters "gimp".

OBSERVED RESULT
It is not possible to change "filetype".

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Maik Qualmann 2022-08-18 10:43:02 UTC
Ubuntu packages are useless for digiKam. The digiKam Ubuntu packages are snap packages. Snap packages use a sandbox, access outside of the user area is not possible. We do not support the Ubuntu Snap packages. Try our current AppImage.

Private packages with native digiKam version:

https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/digikam

Install:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/digikam -y
sudo apt-get update

Hi Maik, thank you for the prompt advices.

I did as you discribed in Comment #3.

It did not make any improvement. The filetype is still "gimp" and it's
impossible to change.

So I hope for Version 7.8.0.

Apart from the fact that the gimp plugin is normally found automatically if it is inside the path environment variable, gimp shows up in the file dialog for me. The Qt file dialog only has the option to pass it as a filter. Alternatively, you can try activating the native system file dialog in the digiKam settings under Miscellaneous.

Now I found the right way to gimp. It is installed in the snap-folder
(not in /etc). But which of the files have I to select?

Hi Maik,

I made an update to DigiKam 7.7.0. Now this point works. Gimp is
started. But then I get this Message:

Der direkte Druck aus digiKam funktioniert allerdings, darum ist der
GIMP-Druck nicht so wichtig, aber ich würde gerne ausprobieren, was
damit geht.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Ernst

Sorry - I forgot to translate:

Printing directly out of digiKam works, but I want to test the
possibilities of printing with GIMP.

Kind regards
Ernst
