SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. I've deleted the shortcut no working and recreated it and tried other key bindings and it still does not work. How exactly did you create the shortcuts that are failing?
All my shortcuts already existed and were working fine and then broke after an update. Go to system settings -> shortcuts Click Add application, select Kate, assign shortcut.
Same Problem for me in a VM. Can reproduce with Kate. I added Kate to the shortcuts list and created "Meta + K" as a shortcut. Pressing the shortcut starts the animation (bouncing icon alongside the cursor), but then nothing happens. Kate does function though. > Pressing the shortcut starts the animation (bouncing icon alongside the cursor), but then nothing happens That means the shortcut itself is working fine, but it's failing to launch Kate for some reason. This might be a different issue from what Rajinder is experiencing. Let's find out. Rajinder, when you press the shortcut, do you also see the launch feedback animation and then the app fails to launch? Or do you see no launch feedback animation? And can you verify that the kglobalaccel daemon is running on your system?
Hi Nate, on openSUSE TW I do not see any indication of Kate opening up from the desktop. I just tried now looking at the toolbar also, nothing is crashing on launch. I can open Kate fine from the terminal and run command.
Also yes kglobalaccel is running fine see it in System Activity, also my other shortcuts continue to work, including a custom shortcut to open Krita.
Ah I know what this is. It's the same issue as Bug 440507 due to a recent change in Kate's desktop file. The issue is already fixed in frameworks 5.97, which you didn't have at the time this bug was filed. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 440507 ***
I got 5.97 now, rebooted my system, delete the global shortcut to Kate, reapplied it, still broken. Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20220901 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.97.0 Qt Version: 5.15.5 Kernel Version: 5.19.2-1-default (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor Memory: 62.7 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/PCIe/SSE2 Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. I also need to mention I have another global shortcut to open LibreOffice Calc that also stop working at the same time, so this is not a Kate related bug and I would reopen this and not mark this is a dup.
It could easily still be the same bug if Libreoffice also puts command-line args in its desktop file's exec= line. Can you see if yours does?
If I look at the menu for how LibrOffice Cala is being called, the command has the following, "libreoffice --calc %U" Are you stay this is the same bug as in Kate?
Yep.
