SUMMARY

Just like for the mic/speaker icons, it'd make sense in my opinion if the related Bluetooth / WiFi icons became adjacent.
Please see the screenshot.

The way this works is that they are both within the same category, but applets within the category are shown in alphabetical order. This is why Bluetooth is always first and Wifi is always last. For me, I experience what you want because I don't have the Keyboard Layout and Microphone indicator applets between them. So the first and last items are adjacent for me, and they appear together.

There isn't really a way for us to fix this without allowing manual ordering, so I'm going to mark the bug as a duplicate of Bug 384782.

Couldn't there be sub-categories and then the ordering is 1) by sub-catergory and 2) within a sub-category alphabetically?

It would be possible, but I think it would unnecessarily complicate the UI in the configuration window, which is where the categories are displayed.
