SUMMARY: After upgrading from KDE plasma v5.24.4 to v5.25.3 the size of icons on the Task Manager bar has doubled. There's no reason for them to be this large. Now the list of open windows takes twice the amount of space it did in the version 5.24.4, and if I open a couple more apps I may run out of space. Is there a way to decrease the size of icons on the Task Manager bar? Am using the Task Manager v4.0 (Classic taskbar-style window switcher displaying icons and text, vertically oriented): https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151038 Operating System: Debian 12 Bookworm GNU/Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0 Qt Version: 5.15.4 Kernel Version: 5.18.0-2-amd64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11
Please attach a screenshot that depicts the problem.
Also, do you notice the same issue with the default Task manager or Icons-Only Task Manager?
Created attachment 151052 [details] KDE 5.25.3. Task Manager large icons The Task bar may not look too horrible but it was more compact in v5.24.4, and I liked it a lot more back then.
> Also, do you notice the same issue with the default Task manager or Icons-Only Task Manager? Not sure what happens with the Icons-Only Task Manager, I practically never used it.
Sounds like an upstream change (which was intentional) interacted badly with your 3rd-party Task Manager widget. You should report the bug for the developer of that widget.
> You should report the bug for the developer of that widget. Who would that be? I've sent an email to Hein hein@kde.org, whose name appears on the Task Manager's "About" tab but have not received any response.
Whoever developed your 3rd-party Task Manager fork. Eike Hein was the developer of the built-in Task manager widget, but he's not active in Plasma development anymore.
> Whoever developed your 3rd-party Task Manager fork. Eike Hein was the developer of the built-in Task manager widget, but he's not active in Plasma development anymore. I was under impression that I was using one of the built-in Task Manager widgets (the other one is Icons-Only Task Manager), I didn't download anything special. On the "About" tab of the Task Manager I'm using it shows the following URL https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Tasks and lists Hein hein@kde.org as the contact.
Oh my mistake, when you said you were using "Task Manager v4.0" I assumed that was a 3rd-party widget since nobody really uses that name for the default one. I can confirm the issue when using a traditional Task Manager on a vertical panel.
Glad it got sorted out. > ≥ 40px thickness vertical panel In my case the panel width is 200px.
Right, text doesn't start appearing until it's thicker. But I can reproduce the issue of the icons being too large starting at 40px thickness. Is it the same for you?
> But I can reproduce the issue of the icons being too large starting at 40px thickness. Is it the same for you? Kind of. I think the icon size at 20-25px is how the icons looked before the change.
Also, if I set the panel width to 800px (eight hundred px) the Task Manager icons strangely become smaller and the Task Manager *vertically* starts to look the way it did before the change.
I also would like to contribute to this problem. I use KDE with 4k monitor, and since upgrade, icons have become too small. Before, when I adjusted panel size, icons would decrease/increase accordingly, scaling smoothly, perfectly for my needs. Now, icons are fixed in size, and too small for me. I use 4K monitor, vertical panel of 256 size, with Task Manager. Icons are too small. https://i.imgur.com/Mqd4ZrC.png Can you please restore smooth icon sizing functionality, or introduce setting in Task Manager so I can set icon size?
