Description David REVOY 2022-07-29 08:02:52 UTC
Hi,
When you hold Ctrl to start a selection with the Freehand Selection Tool, this one doesn't switch anymore to polygonal tool type of selection. It used to start the tool into a polygonal mode.

To reproduce:
===========
1. Select the Freehand Selection Tool
2. Hold Ctrl key
3. Click (stylus draw a point) on the canvas

Result:
======
Nothing happens, or a mini freehand selection potatoe is done if stylus is not precise.

Expected:
========
Freehand Selection Tool switched to polygonal submode: the click traced the origin point of the line and now Krita traces a dynamic line to the cursor; inviting the user to decide about the next point on the polygonal shape.

Observation:
===========
This bug is a regression that happened in 5.1x branch (I can reproduce in 5.1beta1appimage up to now). It cannot be reproduced in 5.0x and before (tested with appimages).

Hi deevad,
It's in fact expected now - please read my responses for bug 456786 before reading rest of this comment.

I've noticed it's a very confusing change (it's like fourth time I handle bug report for this ;) )

I think maybe deif_lou should be asked to allow ctrl for polygonal, when replace mode is picked, so that everybody's happy.

Hi, thank you Wojtek Trybus for the links and for marking the bug as duplicate/resolved.
I can understand how it is intentional now and allows to cleanup conflicts.

I'll learn how to remap my muscle keyboard shortcut memory, and trace a mini freehand segment before holding Ctrl to enter in polygonal mode, maybe. Too bad, the Freehand Selection Tool was super versatile with this 'direct' switch to polygonal before, I'll miss it.
