Description Freek de Kruijf 2022-07-28 14:14:51 UTC
I got a comment about the term Adaptive found in plasma_shell_org.kde.plasma.desktop.pot which behaves as Automatic.
It is about the amount of opacity which the user is unable to change, the system chooses the amount. So it is adaptive by the system, but the term adaptive suggests it is adaptive by the user, which it is not, so a better term would be Automatic or something similar.

Imho there is nothing wrong with the term "adaptive" in the English version of Plasma. But there is something very/completely wrong with your Dutch translation of the word "adapive". Your translation is "aanpasbaar".
That would be the (somewhat wooden) translation of "adaptible".
"Adaptible" is in Dutch "aanpasbaar", "adaptive" could be translated in Dutch as "zelfaanpassend" but that would be ugly too!
The way out would be to translate "adaptive" in Dutch as "automatisch". Imho that is close enough and at least no nonsense.

With "adaptive" Plasma wants to make clear that the system itself adapts the theme when there is a need to do so. You couldn't be more wrong then to translate that with "aanpasbaar" (adaptible).
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the term "adaptive" in that place in Plasma.

I'd translate "adaptive" with "aanpasbaar" too. Where I as a user would interpret it that I, as a user, would be able to adapt/change certain settings my self. Latter seems not to be the case. Which to me means that "adaptive" is wrong.

I agree that the English text is accurate enough here. Moving to i18n.

Changed the translation from "aanpasbaar" in "adaptief" of "adaptieve".
