SUMMARY Anywhere in the settings, I have a button "Get new ..." to download new materials. Can be anything, wallpapers, themes, etc. used to work fine. Now hangs forever. I waited more than 1h. Finally, I close the window, and I am asked to force kill. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. open system settings, find "Get new ..." button 2. click on it 3. wait forever 4. kill system settings. OBSERVED RESULT if I try to download plasma widgets, then I have to kill plasmashell instead of systemsettings, which always makes me sad. Please check if you get any useful log messages on the command line. Also, you could set the log level using kdebugsettings to debug for KNewStuff, that should provide additional information.
