SUMMARY

An option to be able to sort packages by version number would be a nice addition, specifically for search results.

I don't think this would make sense in general, sorry. The only time it would possibly make sense if when you search for an app, and the search returns two results for the same app, because the two instances of that app come from different sources, and because the AppStream IDs of each instance do not match, so Discover can't de-duplicate them. Even in this circumstance, there are only going to be like 2 or 3 items in the search results list, so implementing package-version sorting for that use case seems like overkill in the UI and not worth the development effort required, sorry.
