Created attachment 150235 [details] Screenshot showing the missing tasks in the Icons-Only Task Manager SUMMARY *** The "new" window-overview effect (you know what I mean, the macOS-like Mission Control thingie) allows me to add and remove virtual desktops on the fly. When removing a virtual desktop, the Icons-Only Task Manager on another desktop "forgets" its open windows and simply displays nothing. As a workaround, you can still switch tasks using the Alt-Tab task switcher. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open window overview with Super+W 2. Make sure that there is only one virtual desktop 3. Now, add another two virtual desktops using the large plus icon at the top of the window overview effect 4. You should now have three virtual desktops called Desktop 1 to Desktop 3; go ahead and open some windows/tasks on each of them! 5. Go to Desktop 1 and open the window overview again 6. Delete the virtual desktop in the middle, called Desktop 2 7. Go to Desktop 3 and observe that the Icons-Only Task Manager displays nothing although there are windows/tasks open on that desktop! OBSERVED RESULT None or not all tasks are shown in the Icons-Only Task Manager on Desktop 3 (see attachment for visual explanation) EXPECTED RESULT All of the previous and the newly added tasks from Desktop 2 are shown on the Icons-Only Task Manager on Desktop 3 SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux, Kernel 5.18.7-arch1-1 (64-bit), X11 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0 Qt Version: 5.15.5 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - tested on X11, not tested on Wayland - panel height 28px - 4k screen resolution
Thanks for the detailed bug report. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce the issue; when I follow those steps exactly, the window I opened on desktop 3 moves to desktop 3, and the IOTM shows both of them. Any chance you could attach a full screen recording so I can be sure I'm doing exactly the right set of things to reproduce the bug?
Created attachment 150344 [details] Video recording of a similar behavior Hi Nate, thank you for your response - I'm a big fan of your blog and love the work and effort you put into KDE and how you manage the whole KDE community. I think your hard work is responsible for making me and at least three other friends switch to KDE Plasma from i3wm ;-) Kudos to you and keep up the great work! I've tried to create the screen recording for you. But this time, the effect was slightly different: Desktop 3 didn't show its own tasks but the tasks from the now-deleted Desktop 2 instead (and it "forgot" about its own task). Could potentially be because of an update, I've updated my Arch just yesterday.
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately when I do the exact same thing you're doing, I get the correct result. So it does look like quite a subtle bug. I'm on Wayland FWIW, so maybe it's an X11-only bug. Any chance you could test it on Wayland? Also thanks for the kind words!
Sorry for the late reply, but I was pretty busy. I couldn't reproduce the problem on Wayland, so it's most likely an X-related problem. BTW, it's not specifically tied to the IOTM, it happens with the normal TM as well.
Sorry we were not able to get to this yet. Can I ask you to please check to see if it's still an issue with Plasma 6.3?
