Description Maximilian Böhm 2022-06-21 23:04:35 UTC
I have a 144 Hz monitor and on a Plasma 5.25 session, the new Present Windows effect does look like it uses only like 60 fps. This is a bug.

There is of course the FPS effect (which is correctly showing 144/143 Hz) but I don't know about its meaning for other effects.

This effect feels wrong at this monitor Hz rate, never had this visual observation with the old implementation, which was rendered super smooth. AMDGPU driver in use with a Radeon 5700 XT.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Get a 144 Hz monitor
2. Compare the old Present Windows with the new
3. Cry

EXPECTED RESULT
It should feel smoother. There is clearly something wrong with its frame rate. It isn’t just the faster speed (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455521), but also the frame rate feels limited.

KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0
Qt Version: 5.15.5

Forgot this detail: After several minutes using the session, the effect’s FPS improve! This is always reproducible for me. Like there was a handbrake and then it’s suddenly gone.
