Description Rob Kaper 2000-06-05 19:33:59 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: konqueror
Version: cvsup 20000605 2100 CEST
Priority: Wishlist

Courtesy of a friend of mine: it would be nice if the position of the
scrollbars in the file manager would be configurable. He wants them at the
left just like it is possible in konsole.

Switching the scrollbar might be useful for right-to-left languages
Comment 5 Christoph Feck 2009-10-05 18:11:39 UTC
Needs support from Qt for QAbstractScrollArea based widgets (which means 99% of all cases where scrollbars appear).

Currently, Qt only positions scrollbars on the left with RTL languages.
Comment 6 lee 2010-10-22 02:08:23 UTC
Have there been any changes to this? Is it possible to set up for some RTL language just to get the scrollbars to the left side without messing up anything else?

BTW, some ppl argue that one reason for scrollbars on the left is that when you move a window off the screen to one side, mott you move it to the right, making the scrollbar invisible. How about an option that, when enabled, makes the scrollbar automatically flip over from the side that is moved off the screen to the side that´s still on the screen?

Anyway, it would be really nice if it was finally configurable on which side the scrollbar is ...

Comment 9 Thomas Jensch 2011-08-05 17:19:56 UTC
Being left handed and using KDE SC on a tablet i like to emphasize the importance of free scrollbar positioning. now, my hand covers all the screen when i need to scroll, resulting in almost blind scrolling.

so, for me this is not a feature request, but a bug report, because it seriously limits usability for (at least) left-handed tablet users.

Some time ago I submitted a bug report to QT, but it was closed without comment, see
https://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-10024

I think adding support for scrollbars to qt would be the easiest and cleanest solution. Maybe some further comments to that qt bug would motivate the qt developers to look into it again.

Is this being implemented on Qt5?
