Description Eric Mesa 2022-06-02 15:03:08 UTC
SUMMARY
Under KWayland, dialog popups don't appear where they are expected. For example, in Digikam, if I drag photos to a folder, the move/copy dialog is in a seemingly random place on the screen rather than right next to the folder. This happens all over the place in every program under KWayland.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Do something that causes a dialog popup
2. It does not appear in an intuitive place. It appears on some random place

OBSERVED RESULT
Popups are somewhere random on the screen

EXPECTED RESULT
Popups should be near their context, spacially

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If it matters, I have 4 screens and 2 are 1440p screens and 2 are 1080p screens.

Cannot reproduce with my apps, but this will in the end be heavily dependent on apps setting their dialogs' parent windows correctly, and also correctly marking them as dialogs and not just normal windows. Can you make a list of which dialogs are affected, and what apps opened them?

The two that stand out to me because it kept happening are in Kontact and Calibre.

I'll focus on Kontact since that's actually part of KDE, but I'll mention Calibre at the end as a further example.

With the Kmail part of of Kontact, I drag emails into folders. Seemed to happen roughly every 2nd time. I drag the email to the folder and the box that says "Move here", "Copy here ", and "Cancel" will sometimes appear where it should - next to the folder I'm dragging the email into. Other times it would appear at some random place within the Kontact window.

With Calibre (ebook management software) under the edit book dialog, if I'm adding authors, it has a little thing that appears below with suggestions of authors already in the database. But in Kwayland it was randomly somewhere else on the Calibre window.

> the box that says "Move here", "Copy here ", and "Cancel" will

Is that thing a window with a titlebar and a close button? Or a menu?
