Description postix 2022-05-18 13:20:20 UTC
SUMMARY

There's the OSD, however, it is surely suitable for a laptop, where you attach a single screen:

1) "Switch to external desktop"
2) "Switch to laptop screen"
3) "Unify outputs"
4) "Extend to the left"
5) "Extend to the right"

But let's say you got a system with three screens: A, B and C, where A is the primary, then the overall setup is more complex and it would require a new UI to specify the roles of each screens.

It would therefore be great if there were an UI for doing that in the KScreen settings:

What you can already do is in KScreen is to specify a screen as primary and whether it's on or off.
You can not however specify for example whether screen B shall mirror screen A and C shall only extend A or B.

That seems like too complicated a UI for the OSD. Can't you use the KCM for that?

I meant the KCM, sorry. :)

The question asked was answered. :)
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2022-06-02 15:08:07 UTC
You can do that in the KScreen KCM. Each screen can be marked as a replica or another screen, or not. Does this not work for you?

Can you please show me in a screenshot how to do this? I really cannot find the option to do that.

That's strange. You're on Wayland, right?

Yes, sure. :-)
Comment 11 postix 2022-06-02 16:49:32 UTC
I also don't see the option in the master build of kscreen / systemsettings / kwin_wayland.
Comment 12 Nate Graham 2022-06-03 17:16:39 UTC
You're right. Either it's disappeared, or it only ever appeared there if you mirrored from the OSD in the first place.
Comment 13 Zamundaaa 2022-06-04 08:58:01 UTC
The UI for it is correctly not shown - the relevant functionality does not properly speaking exist on Wayland. Fixing that is planned, once that's done we can enable it: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/issues/78
Comment 14 Nate Graham 2022-06-06 17:36:45 UTC
Well darn. Should we close this because it's already tracked with https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/issues/78?
Comment 15 Zamundaaa 2022-06-06 17:54:38 UTC
sure, let's keep it in one place
