SUMMARY When using a Wayland session of the Plasma desktop, I see the following issues with the slideshow controls: 1. The slide-change buttons have no effect 2. When the slides are in "Presentation" mode, using the pointer brings up the plasma panel, breaking the experience. 3. The Full-screen and Exit slideshow buttons do not work. I verified that everything (except the full-screen selection) works as expected on an X11 session of Plasma. I also checked with a Wayland session of GNOME using the GSConnect extension, and the controls fail to work. Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 Kernel Version: 5.17.3-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U with Radeon Graphics Memory: 14.9 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD RENOIR
Observations: I can confirm that the KDE Connect slideshow remote forward & backward buttons do not function under Wayland, but do function under X. The pointer works as expected; however, it does bring up the panel/dock when in use as if KDE Connect were an application. The full-screen and Exit slideshow buttons do not work. Same results as djmenig, possible duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=448604 Does the Remote input -> Compose send works for you? For me doesn't work either.
What is "Compose send" supposed to do? I can't find any documentation on it.
(In reply to physkets from comment #3) > What is "Compose send" supposed to do? I can't find any documentation on it. With virtual input/remote input you can use the phone as a mouse. And with "compose send" you can send text (using the keyboard o the Voice to Text) to the Desktop. At the end compose send is sending keys to Plasma, same as the forward & backward buttons (that send a "n" and a "p") https://userbase.kde.org/KDEConnect#Virtual_Input
I see.. The behaviour is the same for me as well. I am able to move the mouse-pointer using the remote-input, but unable to type using compose-send.
I'm experiencing the same problems as physkets on my system with the following specs: Operating System: Nobara Linux 36 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 Kernel-Version: 6.0.5-201.fsync.fc36.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 4600H with Radeon Graphics Memory: 15.0 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD RENOIR Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Product Name: G5 5505 System Version: 1.12.1
I can confirm the problem. Slideshow control works on X11 but doesn't work on Wayland. Lucky I found this thread, as I would not have thought this to be related to Wayland.
Thank you for the bug report! I tried to reproduce this issue on the current release of KDE Connect (24.05) and it worked for me without issues. I suspect this was fixed as part of the many improvements to Wayland support in the last 2 years, in KF6/Plasma 6 in particular. Is this still affecting you? And if it is, could you provide some information about your system?
@cwo The issue is partially fixed. Of the three problems I described, this is their current state: 1. The slide-change buttons do work now. 2. Using the pointer in 'Presentation' mode still brings up the plasma panel breaking the presentation experience. 3. The 'Exist slideshow' button works, but the 'Fullscreen' button still does not do anything.
Thanks for testing this! The full screen button not working and the pointer bringing up the panel might be unrelated issues. As this report is about controls not working, I'll retitle this one to match the full screen issue more closely. I can reproduce this with okular, so I'm also marking this as confirmed. Could I ask you to submit a new bug report concerning the pointer bringing up the panel?
