Hmm, tried to reproduce that, no luck (with current master and 21.12.3 on ArchLinux). But there are no extra changes for this in .3 compared to .2.

Attempted duplicating a sessions in Kate 21.12.2 (Fedora), no crash. Seem to remember I had no saved session at the time; this time I attempted duplicating a saved session.
