STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. apply freehand selection
2. make selection
3. any attempt to modify results in extremely slow response

OBSERVED RESULT: suddenly slow responsiveness


EXPECTED RESULT: smooth operation and modification of selection

alongside lagging modification tools, the pan tool causes background audio playback to crackle and mildly distort only during scroll, zoom, and pan tools
