SUMMARY
made sure all layers unlocked, imported picture of lion as paint layer- set scale then drew outline of lion in a photograph  turned visible photograph layer off so it only showed the outline. First time it worked but i went back to add more detail then turned it off again. This time it didnt work -just showed a blank canvas (doesnt show the line art outline of lion).

STEPS taken to re-attempt
1. went back to an earlier saved file and tried again
2. started again completely from scratch
3. restarted pc
4. uninstalled free software and reinstalled Krita software -- this time paid for and installed steam version
5. tried a different lion picture to do outline of.
OBSERVED RESULT
1-5  same outcome (left with blank canvas)

EXPECTED RESULT
should get a black outline of lion that i had drawn.
