Description joel 2022-03-16 21:01:37 UTC
SUMMARY
I upgraded all packages to the latest versions in Manjaro. I have SDDM set to autologin to KDE Plasma (Wayland) in the GUI settings. The Wayland session will start, and keypresses do seem to work, but shows a blank screen (monitor says: no signal). Workaround is to switch to TTY1 and back to TTY2.

This does not happen with autologin to the X11 session, or if you turn autologin off and login to the Wayland session normally.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set SDDM to autologin to your user on the KDE Plasma (Wayland session)
2. Reboot computer

OBSERVED RESULT
Blank screen, monitor says no signal

EXPECTED RESULT
Plasma starts as normal

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Manjaro Stable - linux516 5.16.14
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.91
Qt Version: 5.15.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- AMD Athlon 200GE with Radeon Vega 3 Graphics
- SDDM doesn't appear to have been upgraded, and otherwise seems to function normally.

When you reported the bug, after upgrading your packages , did you reboot your system before logging back in ?

Yes, on both systems I rebooted as part of the testing and troubleshooting process.

I managed to workaround this issue by forcing SDDM to startup as a Wayland session as per Arch Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SDDM#Running_under_Wayland

Autologin to Plasma (Wayland) now works after doing this.

Sounds like it could be an issue in SDDM itself.

Is there any way for me to find out if SDDM is at fault? I didn't start experiencing this until Plasma upgraded. SDDM itself hasn't been changed since Nov 2020.

Closing since likely a SDDM bug.
