STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. add Memory Usage widget to desktop 2. have grouped and non-grouuped apps in the task manager 3. minimize all windows 4. repeatedly hover over each entry in the task manager and observe the RAM usage reported by the widget placed on desktop OBSERVED RESULT RAM usage reported by the widget quickly increases despite System Activity (ctrl+esc) does not show any app/proccess consuming more RAM during the steps above. On my system, Plasma even crashes at some point while I hover over the task manager, and then the RAM usage immediately returns to normal. EXPECTED RESULT observed result should not occur SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.80 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 Graphics Platform: Wayland
That's very strange. I cannot reproduce the issue.
RAM usage increases even faster on Plasma 5.25 beta. Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0 Qt Version: 5.15.4 Graphics Platform: Wayland
Please can you try to get a log in heaptrack
(In reply to David Edmundson from comment #3) > Please can you try to get a log in heaptrack Done. You can download the log in the following link https://www.mediafire.com/file/sz78o1cv4r4esz6/heaptrack.plasmashell.13719.zst/file
That's not showing a leak, 115Mb peak. Nothing too abnormal. It could be that heaptrack won't show shared memory that we allocate that way and given it's related to thumbnails is a plausible place to look.
It's still reproducible. Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 Graphics Platform: Wayland
Memory Usage widget reports that used RAM increases ~300 MiB when I hover over gtouped Konsoles and then decreases ~300 MiB too when mouse pointer leaves the Plasma panel. Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.80 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.100.0 Qt Version: 5.15.7 Graphics Platform: Wayland
I can reproduce that now.
Can reproduce as explained in comment 7 even if the preview are disabled. Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.105.0 Qt Version: 5.15.9 Graphics Platform: Wayland
