STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  Connect second monitor.
2.  Put laptop into sleep mode.
3.  Disconnect second monitor.
4. Turn laptop back on.

OBSERVED RESULT
The "Kubuntu" logo, then a black screen with the mouse. To fix it I have to $ rm  ~/.local/share/kscreen and run  $ sudo killall sddm.

EXPECTED RESULT
A normal login screen.

Kubuntu 20.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0

I'm afraid 5.18 is no longer supported now that we have released Plasma 5.24 as the new LTS version. Please consider upgrading when your distro offers it.
