STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. change the tabs you open
2. do some things like marking all files that bring Dolphin to crash
3. reopen it, the tab session is the one from the beginning

OBSERVED RESULT
Its handy that it saves the session, but it doesnt autosave

EXPECTED RESULT
An autosave of the session every 10 minutes or so would be really useful

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 21.10
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.13.0-28-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

I would also appreciate auto-saving my open tabs every so often. Or even a File > Save (Ctrl+S)

What tends to happen with me is a few times a month my Nvidia GTX 980 Ti will hard crash the system in some games or even shadertoy. I will not have done a proper logout in days or weeks, so all the windows and tabs I've opened in Dolphin will revert to that days or weeks ago state.

As a workaround, is there a way to kill the dolphin process so that it doesn't interpret it as closing the window, but in a way to save the state until next launch? I would be OK manually doing this every day or so.

I tried Hamburger menu > More > File > Quit. But this just closed one of my two windows. Re-launching dolphin restored the one window that just closed, so don't think I can manually "save" multiple windows like this.

Edit: this is still happening in 5.72, Dolphin shows the same previous tabs a lot. Meanwhile Kate works perfectly and always restores everything

The same happens on Fedora 37 with latest updates and 2.72
Comment 4 Henning 2023-06-10 11:56:23 UTC
Edit: I meant 5.27.

This still happens on

Specified App:
dolphin-libs-23.04.1-1.fc38.x86_64
dolphin-23.04.1-1.fc38.x86_64

--- Software ---
OS: Fedora Linux 38.20230609.0 (Kinoite)
KDE Plasma: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks: 5.106.0
Qt: 5.15.9
Kernel: 6.3.5-200.fc38.x86_64

-------------------------

To elaborate further: Dolphin seems to only save its session when closed safely. I often close it by shutting down the system (through the menu, which should use "shutdown -h now" and not "poweroff" for a safe shutdown).

When starting it again, it loads the session I had when last opening it, it saved nothing.

The feature request / fix I would think of is periodically saving the Dolphin session AND/OR fixing the session not being saved when not closed through the "x" button.

I guess the dolphin session includes all windows.

AT's request goes further, wanting to save all windows.

I would be okay with just having the session for a single window saved.
