STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Upgrade plasma to 5.24.0
2. Configure plasma to use the Application Launcher (in my case I set it up to appear when clicking the desktop)
3. Click an application entry in the Application Launcher widget, for example: firefox

OBSERVED RESULT
A kwrite (or other text editor) session is launched with the application desktop file opened, for example: firefox.desktop

EXPECTED RESULT
Firefox would be launched

For what it's worth: I came here to report this bug, too.
I can reproduce it on a different distribution (openSUSE Tumbleweed) using very similar steps.
The only difference being, that I set up the Application Launcher to appear when right clicking the desktop.

This worked as expected with the following SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS:
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20220206
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.16.4-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor
Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT

I at least hope, that this is the same bug. It seems similar enough to me so that I did not want to create a duplicated bug report.
