Cannot reproduce on Wayland with current git master. Is your desktop set to Folder View? And it is set to show desktop:/ or a different location? Can you create new files manually on the desktop with Right-Click > Create New?
i dont know where to find the setting but the desktop points to <homefolder>/Schreibtisch which is the usual place when the distro is set to german. creating files works and you can even drag and drop from the control bar without using modifier keys. this opens a menu and if you select shotrtcut or copy it works just fine.
maybe its a thing that only happens on X11. i also have the latte dock installed. using drag and drop from the latte dock produces exactly the same error
