STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open /var/log/pacman.log with kate
2. run a update
3. click view differences
4. a window appears stating the files are identical

OBSERVED RESULT
a window appears stating the files are identical

EXPECTED RESULT
a .diff file appears

Hmm, works for me with current Kate master branch.
