It seems like there are two different issues here: - Those are actually two different entries, with different names in English, but in some languages the names are translated to the same name. I've forwarded this to our translators - When one of those is open switching to the other doesn't seem to work, but only when using a language where the two have the same name
> - When one of those is open switching to the other doesn't seem to work, but > only when using a language where the two have the same name the cause for that is obvious, there's code that prevents switching if the name is the same: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/systemsettings/-/blob/master/sidebar/SidebarMode.cpp#L473 It should be doable to fix that by comparing the internal id instead, but not sure it's worth it since the name never should be the same in the first place
I agree, KCMs with the same names is nonsense.
Here's a suggestion for french translators : - the first entry “Splash Screen” is the splash screen displayed just after login ton graphical session. It should be “Écran d'ouverture de session” or shorter, “Écran de session” in french; - second entry “Boot Splash Screen” is the splash screen displayed at boot. It should be “Écran de démarrage” The same should apply to buttons “Get new (boot) splash screen” HTH

I see at some places we also use "écran d'accueil" for "splash screen". "Ecran de session" seems a bit weird for me and "Ecran d'ouverture de session" is nicer but longer. We should agree on the term and add it in https://community.kde.org/KDE_Localization/fr/dictionnaire so future translations are coherent
Hello. I found "Splash Screen" in the following po files: * messages/kcm-grub2/kcm-grub2.po:msgid "Show Splash Screen" * messages/kwave/kwave.po:msgid "Disable the Splash Screen." * messages/kwin/kcm_kwinrules.po:msgid "Splash Screen" * messages/plasma-desktop/kcm_splashscreen.po:msgid "Splash Screen" * messages/plasma-desktop/plasma-desktop._desktop_.po:msgid "Splash Screens" * messages/plasma-desktop/plasma-desktop._json_.po:msgid "Splash Screen" * messages/plymouth-kcm/kcm_plymouth.po:msgid "Get New Boot Splash Screens..." * messages/plymouth-kcm/plymouth-kcm._desktop_.po:msgid "Boot Splash Screen" * messages/plymouth-kcm/plymouth-kcm._json_.po:msgid "Boot Splash Screen" According to the proposal, I propose the following rule: * For a graphical connection screen, "splash screen" shall be translated by "Écran de session". * For boot splash screen (Grub2), translations remain "Écran de démarrage" * For applications, using a splash screen, I propose keeping ""Écran de démarrage" (grub may be considered as an appli) I updated kcm_splashscreen.po supposing it is related to the graphical connection screen, using "Écran de session". Modifications are commited. Let me know, if that is acceptable or not, prior to close the report. Cheers. Xavier
