Description alexmateescu 2022-01-28 20:30:10 UTC
SUMMARY
Once picked up, a window icon can only be dropped in select positions.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Disable grouping
2. Enable manual sorting
3. Open several windows of the same application (tested with Firefox and Chromium)
4. Using the mouse, try to drag and drop a particular instance

OBSERVED RESULT
You cannot drop the window between any other two instances of the same application. It seems to always let you drop at the beginning or end of the group, but sometimes you can drop between other windows, too.

EXPECTED RESULT
You should be able to drop a picked up window between any other two instances.

I think this may have been introduced as recently as the last KDE point release, but I'm only like 90% sure.

Sorry you didn't get a response until now. I'm afraid this is intentional; the Icons-Only Task Manager always groups icons together, even if they aren't combined into only one button.

Then why is the option to "disable grouping" still available?
And grouping isn't the issue, the issue is that I'm unable to rearrange some of the browser windows. I understand that they must all be next to each other, but why can't I rearrange them? And is manual sorting is also meant o be unavailable, maybe don't display that option either?

Because some people don't like their multi-window apps combined into a single item; they like to see a separate item for each window, but they don't want to use the non-icons-only task manager because then they would have to see text too and then there wouldn't be as much room for each task.

That has nothing to do with the problem(s) I have described.
1. You have the option to enable/disable grouping for icon-only task manager, but you're telling me grouping is not actually on option here.
2. You have the option to enable manual icon sorting, but that doesn't work properly even if I'm _not_ trying to drag and drop a window outside its group.

There may be some confusion here; in the context of the Task manager widgets, "grouping" means "collapse multiple items into one", not "put multiple items next to one another."

I'm saying that for the icons-only task manager, when grouping is disabled, it's intentional that windows of the same app have to remain next to each other even though they don't get collapsed into one item.

Ok, now it all makes sense.
There was still an issue that I couldn't drag and drop _within a group_, but I've just tried it again and it seems to be working fine now.
Now, if only I could control the size of the icons in the icons-only task manager...
