Wrong highlighting

SUMMARY
When using PDFs with Latex equations, highlighting text can sometimes result in half the line below the highlighted text to also be highlighted. This seems to happen only for certain characters and not for all equations. See for example this pdf: https://arxiv.org/pdf/hep-lat/0312022.pdf

OBSERVED RESULT
See attachment. Note that avoiding the "+" symbol and the spaces around it doesn't highlight the line below, and produce the correct behavior. However, the "+" symbol is not the only symbol to produce the bug.

EXPECTED RESULT
The line with the words "transition because" in the attachment should no be half highlighted, and only with "(3+1)d E(6)" should be highlighted.
