SUMMARY *** After uninstalling Xreader, I installed Okular for the first time on my system. However, now, after this date, any PDF files created by LibreOffice Write fail to show the first-page thumbnail on the pdf file. Existing PDF files, created before the uninstall of Xreader and the install of OKULAR, are not affected. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Need to have OKULAR uninstalled and all dependencies, configuration files etc. removed. 2. Install Xreader. 3. In LibreOffice Writer, generate a PDF from a file with a distinctive, large image on the first page (to create an easily-visible first-page thumbnail on the pdf icon). 4. Create a pdf. EXPECTED / OBSERVED RESULT: The PDF should have a thumbnail of the first page clearly visible on it. 5. Uninstall Xreader and install Okular. 6. Now repeat step 3, above. OBSERVED RESULT: The first-page thumbnail does not appear; only the generic PDF thumbnail. EXPECTED RESULT; The first-page thumbnail should be on the first page of the PDF doc. 7. Install Xreader (keep Okular) and repeat step 3. EXPECTED / OBSERVED RESULT: The PDF should have a thumbnail of the book-cover clearly visible on it. *** SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Mint 20.1 / Cinnamon 4.8.6 KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: 5.89.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3. Created attachment 145862 [details] test_file.odt and screenshot showing "before" and "after" appearance of pdfs. Here's a better method for seeing the bug 2013 – at least on Linux Mint. 1. Make sure that both Okular and Xreader are installed. 2. Unzip the attached zip file. 3. Open the "test_file" in LO Writer and generate a pdf from it. Observed / Expected result: The PDF shows a thumbnail of the "Smiley face" thumbnail (see screenshot). 4. Close LO Writer. 4. Uninstall Xreader. Okular should now be the only pdf reader on your system. 5. Shut down / restart your computer. 6. Open the test_file again and generate a pdf. Expected result: there should be a smiley face thumbnail on the pdf file. Actual result: There is a generic PDF thumbnail instead: see screenshot.
Okular is not responsible for creating thumbnails for whatever file manager you are using.
