SUMMARY In systemsettings->appearance->colours (and maybe others) after selecting and applying, it doesn't update the colours for a very long time (over a minute) unless you select something else (such as plasma style) then immediately says it's not applied yet, asks to apply a second time, does it, then lets you do something else. If you wait, it takes much longer than if you select something else STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to systemsettings->appearance->colours 2. Change colours. 3. Wait or select other menu item like plasma style. OBSERVED RESULT For as long as I waited it never updated colours unless I select something else (like plasma style) then asks to apply a second time, finally does it, then I can make the second change. EXPECTED RESULT Should update colours as fast as it does if you choose a second setting, without having to choose that. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Slackware64 15RC3 / 5.23.5 KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Maybe this is affecting other menus in systemsettings. In earlier KDE, changing colours, even on my three monitors, would take five or 10 or maybe 15 seconds maximum. Now I've waited a minute, stopped waiting, and choose to change something else, then after asking a second time, it applies it immediately (if I selected colours, applied, immediately selected something else, applied a second time, it changes the colours much faster, actually.)
It works instantly for me; cannot reproduce. This sounds strange. Are you using a hard drive? What kind of GPU does your system have?
I have M2 SSD/NVME for OS, HDD for data, AMD Radeon 6900 XT GPUs ASUS Tuf display/video/graphics card. However, did you check with multiple monitors?

It stopped happening.
Created attachment 150355 [details] colours not changing This video shows it happening again. Very soon after beginning, I press <ALT>a which changes appearance of 'apply' button but nothing happens until I select another appearance tab then press popup's 'apply'... I could wait several minutes and the keyboard keystroke just no longer works... isn't just limited to this tab but several/many systemsettings tabs (so is probably a more general bug.)
At the time of recording I was using about 1% CPU resouces, had 17GB free RAM, and no audible HDD activity (/home/user/.kde is on it but main KDE is on SSD.)
Your video show everything working properly: the app windows change color when you change the color scheme, but the panel does not, because it's using your Plasma theme "Air" which is not a color-scheme-aware Plasma theme. You can tell because it doesn't have the "Follows color scheme" subtitle that the Breeze color scheme has. The issue with the apply button is something different ant not related to this.
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #8) > Your video show everything working properly: the app windows change color when you change the color scheme In fact it shows it not working: I press <ALT>a to change it, then 'apply' button gets a dotted line near its edge and does nothing. It's not until I select 'plasma style' do I get a message that says the colour theme wasn't applied, so do I want to apply before going to the plasma style menu. Never mind the part about changing plasma style: not an issue. I could redo this video showing me waiting half an hour with the 'apply' button not finishing and the colour theme not changing until I select another menu tab and get message it's not updated yet, and asking if I want to.
I'm getting confused because you're reporting multiple issues in a single bug report. See https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Issue_Reporting#Multiple_issues_in_a_single_Bugzilla_ticket If you want this bug report to only be about the issue of Alt+A focusing the Apply button in QML KCMs rather than clicking them, then it's a duplicate of Bug 440255. If there are other issues, please file other bug reports. Thanks! *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 440255 ***
I did NOT report duplicate issues--reread the title: this always only was about the keystroke doesn't 'apply' the button, though apparently is duplicate of bug 440255.
