Description David Chmelik 2022-01-23 07:34:58 UTC
SUMMARY

If you move the taskbar to the top (Apple-style) and enable the effect to snap programs into place, and you try to snap a program to the top (or top of either side of the screen) it doesn't snap rather than two or three pixels away, requiring manually moving, but often moving a little too far and maximizing it instead.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Move taskbar to top and enable snap effect.
2. Snap a program to top of either side.
3. Only snaps part of the way.

OBSERVED RESULT
Only snaps almost two or three pixels from the top.

EXPECTED RESULT
Should snap all the way to the taskbar.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Slackware64 15RC3 / 5.23.5
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

Cannot reproduce.

1. X11 or Wayland? If it's X11, are you using the PLASMA_USE_QT_SCALING=1 environment variable? Also can you test on Wayland if it's on X11?
2. Can you attach a screenshot or even a screen recording that shows the bug in action?
Comment 2 David Chmelik 2022-01-24 03:49:23 UTC
X11, and I'm not ready to switch. Now it's not happening, but in the past it happened quite a lot, with every program. Maybe it's one of the (several bad) things that happen after I go away from keyboard (AFK,) the screen goes blank, then programs move to other places than I had put them, then when I move & snap them back, that might be when this happens. Right now I can't use a desktop recorder, and of course, can't take a screenshot when motion is in progress, though if/when it happens again I could I could take a screenshot showing how many pixels a program is away.
Comment 3 Vlad Zahorodnii 2022-01-24 10:05:51 UTC
what's the snap effect?
Comment 4 David Chmelik 2022-01-24 10:11:00 UTC
Only one effect name starts with snap, so shouldn't be too hard for you to find.

(snap helper)
Comment 5 Vlad Zahorodnii 2022-01-24 10:13:08 UTC
Despite its name, that effect doesn't actually snap windows. It only draws a window outline.
